Agricultural & Natural Resource Sciences
Get ready to get your hands dirty in the greatest lab around: the Big Bend Region of Texas.
Here, at Sul Ross, students get hands-on learning across a wide range of disciplines. Our faculty believes the best way to help students learn is to provide them with real world experience that translates into employment opportunities. That means getting out into the field, into the pens, and into the environments where they'll be working.
If you're interested in a career that's rooted in being outdoors, out on the range or taking care of the environment, then this is for you. Our students pursue careers associated with the production, processing and distribution of food and fiber, the management of natural resources, the sound application of agricultural business practices, and agricultural education.
The College of Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences was established in 1999 as an outgrowth of the Division of Range Animal Science and continues the agricultural tradition started at Sul Ross nearly 80 years ago. Sul Ross is also the birthplace of the National Intercolligiate Rodeo Association established in 1948. The Sul Ross Rodeo program offers students opportunities with any academic background.
The programs are housed in the Everett E. Turner Range Animal Science Center on East Highway 90, about a mile east of the main campus. We serve students interested in pursuing careers associated with animal science (agricultural education, animal production, animal health management and pre-veterinary advising, equine science, meat science, and reproductive physiology) and the management of natural resources (agricultural business, conservation biology, range management, and wildlife management).
Our faculty stresses a hands-on learning approach, with emphasis given to building a solid background in the fundamental principles of your area of study.
You can earn Bachelor of Science, Master of Agriculture, and Master of Science degrees in two departments: Animal Science and Natural Resource Management. We pride ourselves in offering excellent facilities and learning opportunities in a student-oriented, learning-centered environment.
