BIG BEND REGION MINORITY & SMALL BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT CENTER
(BBRMSBDC)

The BBRMSBDC at Sul Ross State University operates as a service center of the South Texas Border Region network housed at the University of Texas at San Antonio. The program is funded by Sul Ross State University, the state of Texas, and the U. S. Small Business Administration.

The BBRMSBDC helps existing and start-up small business owners develop their management skills for a better chance at success. The BBRMSBDC team of counselors assists small businesses in areas ranging from business plan development and financing, to marketing, advertising, and international trade assistance. Many counselors have backgrounds as small business owners, and can provide the practical expertise needed for today's businesses.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

COUNSELING SERVICES

  • Business Plan Development: Assistance with business plan layouts including business descriptions, product/service definitions, management plans, and financial plans
  • Business Start-Ups: Assistance with choosing the appropriate legal structures, tax structures, and bookkeeping systems, and analyzing the feasibility of new businesses
  • Marketing: Assistance with researching markets, defining markets, marketing plans, and advertising
  • Financing: Assistance with loan packaging, procurement assistance, and analyzing profitability
  • Small Business Expansion: Assistance with managing increased inventory, fixed assets, and sales
  • Human Resource Management: Assistance in complying with labor laws and regulations, controlling labor costs, and training
  • International Trade: Assistance in locating foreign markets, contacts, tariffs, and foreign trade rules and regulations

Big Bend Region Minority & Small Business Development Center counselors maintain the highest ethical standards of confidentiality with their clients. One-on-one counseling services are provided at no charge to the client.

TRAINING WORKSHOPS AND SEMINARS

BBRMSBDC provides a wide variety of business training for both existing and start-up businesses. These workshops are free or low cost and designed to help small businesses acquire the information they need to achieve success. Workshop topics such varied topics as marketing, financing, strategic planning, procurement, and others. Seminars are conducted by SBDC staff, consultants, SRSU faculty members, and private sector practitioners. Specific workshops in your area can be scheduled at your request. SMALL BUSINESS INCUBATOR

As the result of a grant from the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, the Big Bend Region Minority and Small Business Development Center (BBRMSBDC) and Sul Ross State University is now accepting applications for participation in a small business incubator project, located at the Centennial School Building in Alpine.

Business incubation is a business support process that is designed to accelerate the successful development of start-up and fledgling companies by providing entrepreneurs with a smorgasbord of targeted resources and services.

 The primary goal of business incubation is the production of successful firms – financially strong and independent. Graduates have the potential to create jobs, revitalize neighborhoods, introduce creative strategies, and strengthen local economies.

Applicants must be a new or expanding for-profit small business and must demonstrate a need for incubator services. They must have, or be prepared to develop, a viable business plan and be able to justify their inability to afford a direct move into the private sector at the time of application. Applicants must also demonstrate the potential for job creation in the Big Bend region.

A partnership program with the U.S. Small Business Administration.  The Big Bend Region Minority & Small Business Development Center at Sul Ross State University is funded in part through a Cooperative Agreement with the U. S. Small Business Administration.
