Big Bend Equine Center
Jim and Mandy Larremore, Alpine

Jim and Mandy Larremore asked Big Bend Region Minority and Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Senior Business Advisor Loretta Garcia for assistance in putting together a loan proposal for the purchase a 25-acre horse facility with 24-stall barn, round pen, four pastures, hay storage and a 3 bed / 2 bath home, located @ 2703 West 90 in Alpine. They wanted to purchase and convert the property to an equine center because they believed there is currently a need and demand for a quality horse care center in Alpine. They are confident they can provide quality care for stalled horses, and provide a safe atmosphere for riders.
The Larremore’s business will offer safe and clean stall
s with the ability to furnish feed plus feed and watering service for those tenants that so choose, vet care, the sale of feed to the public and to those tenants that care for there own horse, access to riding and or training facilities (arena, round pen, horse-walker and pasture), farrier services, training and/or training consultations, RV hook-ups for tenants and weekenders, an arena where there is a safe controlled environment for tenants to work or exercise there horses, and provide practice cattle for tenants to use, as well as plans to have barrel races, team roping, ranch rodeo’s, and 4-H paydays. Their customer base will consist of college students (rodeo students), local residents with nowhere else to keep there horses, travelers, and weekenders during local events. They will reach their target market through advertisements in newspapers, area chambers of commerce, radio, and word of mouth.
With Garcia’s help, Mr. and Mrs. Larremore obtained a direct loan from the Fort Davis State Bank and Lawson Allen, President, in the amount of $137,300 and invested $150,000 of their own money toward this project.  They expect to be open for business by September, 2008.
