Del Rio, Texas-The Bank & Trust has added new scholarship dollars for Sul Ross Rio Grande College students who reside in Val Verde county.

Students seeking either a bachelor’s degree or a master’s degree may apply for the award worth $1,000 per semester. The first scholarship will be given for the fall 2015 semester. One of the qualifications includes completion of a financial literacy course, a 4-week class that meets for 45 minutes that educates students about their personal money management and covers how to build personal wealth, manage debt, including student loans, and building and following a budget.

“The Bank & Trust is very excited to be a partner with Rio Grande College,” said Shannalea Taylor, President of The Bank & Trust.  We strongly believe that knowledge turns to opportunity and this is an example of how we can all work together to ensure individuals and our community are prepared for a successful tomorrow.  Financial literacy is a key component to that success and aligns with our organization’s relationship focused philosophy.”

The scholarship application, including everything needed to qualify, will be available on the Rio Grande College website in the spring. The financial literacy course will be offered on the RGC sites in Del Rio, Eagle Pass, and Uvalde on Wednesdays from 5 -5:45 p.m., Feb. 11-Mar. 4. Students who successfully complete the course will be eligible to apply for the scholarship. For more information about the classes, email or call 830.279.3040.

Thanks to the generosity of The Bank & Trust and a commitment to investing in the community, more students can now receive help to continue their educations plus learn how to keep themselves financially healthy.
