About MRGC

RGC LocationsThe Middle Rio Grande Campuses (MRGC) of Sul Ross State University in Del Rio, Eagle Pass and Uvalde, serve 13 counties in southwest Texas.

MRGC is located on the Texas-Mexico border and the area includes two of the five highest-volume ports to our southern neighbor.

The Academic Programs

MRGC offers junior, senior and graduate coursework with programs in liberal arts, business and teacher education at all sites.

MRGC Offers the Latest Educational Technologies

MRGC links students and curriculum through remote teleconferencing technologies and Internet courses. Four Distance Learning Centers at each campus provide real-time interaction between a professor and students learning from a distance. All campuses are equipped with two computer labs and writing centers, where students are tutored to master written and oral communication skills. Additionally, more than half of MRGC’s course offerings are available online to convenience students otherwise obligated to work or family schedules.

A Brief History

Sul Ross State University began offering extension classes in the middle Rio Grande region in the 1960s. With Southwest Texas Junior College already serving freshman and sophomore college students, the Sul Ross model evolved into an upper-level institution that provides junior and senior level courses leading to bachelor's degrees as well as master's degrees.

Now known as Sul Ross State University Middle Rio Grande Campuses, the new name more accurately reflects the 26,000-square mile area it serves. MRGC educates students from the Rio Grande River in Val Verde County, south to Eagle Pass, west to Cotulla, north to Dilley, Pearsall, Bandera and Kerrville and all points in between―Brackettville, Crystal City, Carrizo Springs, Uvalde, Leakey, and Hondo. We align our degree plans with Southwest Texas Junior College so local students complete their first two years there and transfer seamlessly to MRGC.

In the early days, students spent time driving to classes between the three campuses in order to complete their degrees. With advances in technology, Sul Ross defined the innovation frontier by quickly moving to state-of-the-art teleconference equipment which connects all three sites, allowing students to attend class on their home campuses and drastically cutting travel time. Many courses are also available online, giving students more flexibility in scheduling their time.

A Blend of Cultures

Sul Ross and the southwest are closely tied. The blending of the Hispanic and Anglo heritages makes Sul Ross perfect for anyone who seeks intellectual development with emphasis on the mutual culture that all Americans share. The student body consists of multicultural, traditional and non-traditional students.
