EVP/Provost Search Updates

February 27, 2019

The search process for the next Executive Vice President and Provost has reached its next stage and we have invited three highly qualified candidates to the Sul Ross campuses in Alpine and Uvalde in the next two weeks.  The Search Committee met with eight candidates during airport interviews in mid-February and identified three to meet with the campus community.  I am pleased with the level of credentials and qualifications that each candidate offers and I look forward to their opportunity to meet with you starting next week.  The full interview schedule, candidate CVs and bios will be available online for your review prior to their arrival.  There will be an opportunity for all within the campus communities to meet with the candidates during open forums with faculty, staff, and students.  Please join me in welcoming these candidates to campus.

January 30, 2019

On behalf of the Search Committee for the Executive Vice President and Provost, we are pleased to provide this update.

The Search Committee met on January 28, 2019 to review the credentials of applicants for the provost position.  There were 51 applications submitted as of the priority deadline of January 21.  Throughout December and January, we had the opportunity to review candidates’ letters of application, resumes, list of references, and any additional materials submitted by candidates (e.g. Statement of Teaching Philosophy). We are very pleased with the quality and diversity of the applicant pool.

On January 28, we thoroughly discussed applicants’ credentials and selected eight highly qualified semifinalists to advance to the next phase, which is a personal interview with the committee.  The committee will meet these candidates at an off-campus location in mid-February. From among this group, we will choose a small number of finalists for campus interviews in early March. It is important to note that all committee members were instructed to keep the discussions and the names of the semifinalists confidential as part of their duties in the search committee.

The semifinalists align very well with the qualifications outlined in the Search Prospectus and we look forward to meeting them.  Once the finalists are selected, we will determine the best available dates for the campus interviews and provide a schedule of opportunities for campus constituents to meet the finalists.

Sincerely,

Yvonne Realivasquez, Co-Chair

On behalf of President Kibler and the Search Committee for the Executive Vice President and Provost, we are happy to provide the first of several updates on the search.

Recruitment:  The Search Prospectus is completed and can be found on the websites for SRSU and Academic – Search.  Advertisements have been placed in various higher education online sources as we seek nominations and applications.  If you wish to apply or nominate a candidate, please send an email to srsuprovost@academic-search.com.

Timeline:  The priority deadline for applications is January 21.  The Search Committee will meet at the end of January to select a group of semifinalists, who will be invited for interviews at an off-campus location in mid-February.  Finalists will be selected after those interviews and invited to the campus for interviews in early March.  The goal is to complete campus interviews prior to Spring Break.

Confidentiality:  Until the campus interviews, names of candidates will be held in confidence.  Please do not place your colleagues serving on the Search Committee in an awkward position by asking for candidate information.  Each member of the committee has signed a statement of confidentiality.

We will provide interim updates to the campus community as the search progresses.
Thank you,

Yvonne Realivasquez, co-chair
