Anthropology

Anthropology is the study of humanity across time and culture. At Sul Ross State University, Anthropology students explore human societies, cultures, environments, and histories through hands-on research, fieldwork, scientific analysis, and interdisciplinary learning.

Students gain experience in archaeological methods, cultural analysis, GIS mapping, laboratory techniques, and applied research while studying the rich cultural landscapes of the Big Bend region and beyond. Whether pursuing careers in cultural resource management, museums, research, public service, or advanced academic study, Anthropology students develop critical thinking, scientific literacy, and practical field experience that prepares them for meaningful careers and lifelong learning.

Across all levels of study, Anthropology at Sul Ross is grounded in experiential learning, close faculty mentorship, and research opportunities connected to the unique environments and communities of West Texas and the borderlands.
