Academic Advisors serve as the initial academic contact for new students transitioning from high school or other institutions, provide continuing students with schedule planning and degree checklists, identify academic support structures (tutoring) for at-risk students, and assist students in choosing a major.  Academic Advisors also provide students with one-on-one instruction on how to use Lobo Online, the student’s portal to academic and administrative services at Sul Ross State University.

Advisors accept student inquiries by appointment (Microsoft Teams), over the phone, or as walk-ins. Students must be advised before registration and they must receive their advisor’s final approval of schedules and official degree plans.

Student Advising occurs across many levels at Sul Ross State University. Chief among these are:

Lobo Den (Academic Advising and Tutoring) – Alpine Campus

Academic Center for Excellence – Alpine Campus

Student Support Services – Alpine Campus

Academic Advising – RGC Campuses

The Graduate Student Center – All Campuses

Students maintain their own degree plans, updating at the end of each semester. Present the degree plan and the proposed schedule to your advisor in order to register for classes. For students with questions about which Catalog they are under or whether to switch Catalogs, they should consult an academic advisor. Degree plans over six years old expire and students will need to move to a new version which may change some of the degree requirements; therefore, students are encouraged to complete their degrees with the six year time frame. Students with an expired degree plan should consult an advisor promptly.

All undergraduates must be advised in order to register/enroll in courses in a future term.
