Learn about the history of Alpine and Sul Ross and the natural history of Hancock Hill, while taking in stunning views.
- This 1.8-mile hike is moderately strenuous and will last 2 hours.
PLEASE BE CONFIDENT YOU CAN KEEP A BRISK PACE ON ROUGH, STEEP TERRAIN BEFORE SIGNING UP. - Hikes are contingent on weather and may not be rescheduled.
- This hike will not visit the Sul Ross Desk.

Location: Hancock Hill – start and end at the Hancock Hill Trailhead
700 N Bird Street, Alpine, TX 79830 See Google Maps link
Time: 9:00 – 11:00 AM
Distance: 1.8 miles
Elevation gain: 383 feet
Difficulty: moderately difficult with loose rocks and occasional steep inclines
Duration: 2 hours
Capacity: 12 people, sign-up required
Cost: Free
Preparation: Wear close-toed shoes with decent traction, long pants, appropriate sun protection and layers, and carry 1-2 liters of water
