With academic degrees in both painting and psychology, Chihuahua City artist Paola Rascón’s portraits can be viewed as both art and personality studies of the Chihuahuan Cholo subculture. Combining modern subject matter and the “bourgeoisie” Baroque painting style, Rascón helps museum goers see Cholos as complex, historical individuals. The glossy, mirror-like finish on her life-size depictions also allows viewers to see themselves in the unfamiliar clothes and poses.
