PORTALES, New Mexico- A 230-point tally propelled the Sul Ross State University Women’s Rodeo team to the Team Championship during the three-day Eastern New Mexico University rodeo held September 19-21 in Portales, NM.
The Sul Ross women dominated in the point total outscoring runner-up South Plains Community College by 35 points.
Individually, Timmi Hutchings polled 150 points to take the top spot in the goat tying event while teammate Kaylee Smith placed third with 80 points.
For the men, Zach Hamar won the crown in the steer wrestling event posting 120 points.
In tiedown roping, Chantz Webster posted a top 10 finish placing seventh with a 50-point total. Kirby Blankenship took eighth in team roping with 40 points.
Sul Ross will host the 74th NIRA Rodeo September 26-28. Competition begins at 7:00 p.m. each evening at the Sul Ross SALE Arena.
