ALPINE, Texas – Despite a 1-1 tie at the end of double overtime of Thursday’s ASC quarterfinal, the Sul Ross Lady Lobo soccer team found itself on the short send of a 6-5 shootout on penalty kicks against visiting LeTourneau.
The Yellow Jackets will advance to the semifinals against either McMurry or Hardin-Simmons this Friday and improve to 12-5-1 while the Lady Lobos end their season at 9-5-1.
LeTourneau netted the first goal in the opening half as Keely Hayden scored off a header across the goal at the 29th minute.
Sul Ross tied the game at the 77th minute in the second half as Haley Gillespie punched in a header off a corner kick to tie the game at one.
Two overtimes ensued setting up the shooutout that the Jackets took by a 6-5 margin.
For the game, the Lady Lobos posted 18 shots with 10 on goal. LeTourneau tallied 11 shots and was limited to just four on frame.
Senior goalkeeper Kelly Swenson collected three saves on the afternoon.
