Sul Ross State University College of Education Professor Michel Torres is now a #1 international bestselling author following the success of Mujeres Rising: Leading with Heart and Courage, an anthology highlighting the experiences, perspectives and leadership journeys of Latina women.
Since its Sept. 2 release, Mujeres Rising has achieved #1 status, reaching bestseller lists in 52 categories across the U.S., Canada and Italy, including 11 categories ranking #1. Compiled by Gabriela Ramírez-Arellano and Esmeralda Aharon, Mujeres Rising brings together personal essays exploring leadership, growth, resilience and courage. Dr. Torres, who joined the College of Education faculty this fall, contributed a chapter to the collection.
For Torres, becoming a contributing author represents more than seeing her work in print. The experience is also an important step toward a long-term goal of creating an anthology that provides women from rural communities with a platform to share their own stories.
“One of my long-term goals is to eventually develop an anthology of my own that highlights the stories of women from my community and other rural communities,” Torres said.
The themes explored in Mujeres Rising also complement Torres’ work as an educator and her interest in scholarship and writing. Through her professional, academic and creative pursuits, she hopes to continue exploring the intersections of women, leadership, education and rural communities.
