The Agriculture, Natural Resources Sciences (ANRS) & Rodeo Exes Association at Sul Ross State University has established a $25,000 endowed scholarship to provide financial assistance to undergraduate and graduate students.
A signing ceremony was held during the 81st Annual Sul Ross Rodeo weekend.
The ANRS & Rodeo Exes Association Memorial Endowment was created as the association enters its 50th year, with the goal of establishing a lasting source of scholarship support for students in Sul Ross’ agriculture and rodeo programs. The endowment will support students enrolled in an agriculture/natural resource management field of study or students who are members of the rodeo team. Eligible students may be full- or part-time and must be admitted to or enrolled at Sul Ross with good academic standing.
“As we enter our 50th year of the ANRS & Rodeo Exes, we wanted to leave a lasting legacy,” said Phillip Carey, president of the ANRS & Rodeo Exes Association.
The association plans to continue contributing to the endowment each year, with the goal of growing the fund so it can eventually provide multiple scholarships and generate support beyond the amount raised through the association’s annual fundraising activities. Scholarships may be used for educational expenses including tuition, mandatory fees, books, supplies, housing and meal plans.
ANRS & Rodeo Exes holds its annual reunion and fundraiser on the third weekend in July, providing an opportunity for former students and supporters to remain connected to the programs and contribute to their continued success. The 2026 reunion was dedicated to the late Larry Byrum, a longtime supporter.
“Larry Byrum was a stalwart supporter of Sul Ross and our efforts to support the programs we hold so dear,” Carey said. “We felt it was important to dedicate this year’s reunion to his memory and to establish an endowment that will carry that spirit of support forward for generations of students.”
