SAN ANTONIO, Texas- Sul Ross Men’s Basketball wrapped up the calendar year with an 82-72 victory over Trinity University Monday in San Antonio.
Conner Dawson led the charge with 24 points and added five assists while B.J. Hollis, Tristen Licon and Cole Avery contributed 16, 14 and 12 points respectively.
The Lobos pounded out an 11-0 run to begin the contest as Licon finished the drive with a three-pointer at the 17:15 mark of the first half.
Dawson would convert a four-point play with a triple and a follow up free throw for an 18-6 lead at 15:33.
Six minutes later, Avery connected from long range to put the visitors up by 21.
Sul Ross would hold its largest lead of 24 as Hollis drained a free throw with 6:16 remaining before the half.
The Tigers ended the half with a 7-0 run but trailed 46-13 at the break.
Trinity then used a 4-0 run and pulled to within five with 16:51 left in the closing half.
A three ball by Avery sparked a 5-0 run that was capped by another triple and a layup by Licon for a 60-44 Lobo lead at 13:24.
Sully would hold three, 17-point leads down the stretch before the Tigers snuck to within 10 off a 7-0 run as the Lobos prevailed for the 82-72 victory.
Sul Ross finished the day shooting 48 percent from the floor and converted 15-of-29 shots from outside the arc at 52 percent for a season-high.
With Monday’s victory the Pack improves to 6-7 on the season while Trinity drops to 2-9.
The Lobos will visit U.T. Tyler Thursday for a 7:30 p.m. tip from the Patriot Center.
