The Rio Grande College of Business (RGCOB) at Sul Ross State University announced the further adoption of the prestigious case-based learning methodology in its new master’s degree program in International Business to be offered in Fall 2026.
This milestone marks a significant advancement in the college’s commitment to delivering education that develops not only knowledge but also the critical competencies demanded by today’s global business environment.
The Case Method, developed over a century ago at Harvard Business School, revolutionized business education by shifting the focus from passive lectures to active, student-centered learning. Instead of simply receiving information, students analyze real-world business scenarios—known as “cases”—to identify challenges, evaluate alternatives and propose actionable solutions. This immersive approach cultivates critical thinking, decision-making, communication and leadership skills, all essential for success in complex and ambiguous business contexts.
By further integrating this methodology, RGCOB ensures that students engage deeply with authentic business challenges, preparing them to navigate the complexities of international markets with confidence and agility. The program emphasizes the mastery of practical skills and behaviors alongside theoretical knowledge, aligning with the evolving expectations of employers who seek graduates capable of applying concepts effectively in dynamic, real-world situations.
This pedagogical innovation reflects a broader trend in business education, where active learning and skill development are prioritized to meet the demands of a rapidly changing global economy.
Dr. Eduardo Russo, chair of the master’s degree in International Business, said, “Adopting the Case Method empowers our students to think critically and act strategically, bridging the gap between academic theory and practical business leadership.”
RGCOB Dean Sumantra Sengupta said, “This initiative underscores our dedication to academic excellence and innovation, positioning Sul Ross State University as a leader in transformative business education in Texas.”
