
The Omicron Phi Chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, the National Political Science Honor Society at Sul Ross State University, held its spring induction ceremony in April, welcoming a new group of students into the organization.
The ceremony was led by Dr. Jessica Velasco and Dr. Yen-Hsin Chen, with remarks from Dr. Terri Towner, president of Pi Sigma Alpha. Student leaders Alonzo Martinez and Taylor Moore also participated, assisting with the initiation and guiding inductees through the oath.
During the ceremony, representatives highlighted the benefits of membership, including academic recognition and access to scholarships, research opportunities, publications and professional networks in public service, law and academia.
Inductees formally affirmed their commitment to the ideals of scholarship, integrity and citizenship as part of the induction ritual.
Spring 2026 inductees include Michael Choate (Frisco), Luis Duran (Eagle Pass), Kelly Hurley (Fort Davis)
and Erica Sanchez (Eagle Pass).
The Omicron Phi Chapter continues to promote academic excellence and engagement in political science and public service at Sul Ross State University. The chapter has been recognized by the national office as a Best Small Chapter for four consecutive years.
Inducted students were recognized again during the Political Science and Public Administration program’s hooding and cording ceremony on graduation day.
