
Sul Ross State University announced the appointment of Cynthia Gomez as Interim Executive Director of the Small Business Development Centers (SBDC) in Eagle Pass and Alpine, effective Aug. 19.
Cynthia Gomez brings over 20 years of dedicated service to the SBDC. A Senior Business Advisor for the past eight years, she has earned all four levels of Business Advisor Certification and has guided countless small business owners in areas such as finance, business planning, management, human resources, marketing and QuickBooks accounting software.
“I am honored to serve as Interim Executive Director and remain committed to helping local businesses thrive,” said Gomez. “The SBDC plays a crucial role in fostering economic growth across the Middle Rio Grande and West Texas regions, and I look forward to continuing this mission in my new capacity.”
Gomez also brings 13 years of real estate experience, having successfully assisted a diverse range of clients as a licensed Realtor since 2012. S
She earned her Bachelor of Business Administration in 2003 and her Master of Business Administration in International Business in 2004, both from Texas A&M International University. Throughout her career, she has also served as an adjunct instructor, sharing her expertise with students.
Gomez achieved the State Star Award from the Southwest SBDC Network in 2018, 2019 and 2022, as well as a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2022.

This leadership change follows the July 2025 decision by SRSU President Carlos Hernandez to align the reporting of the Alpine and Eagle Pass SBDC Centers under the Rio Grande College of Business, enhancing the student-centric ecosystem of SRSU and SRSU International.
