
The Museum of the Big Bend proudly presents the 39th Annual Trappings of Texas, the nation’s longest-running exhibit and sale dedicated to Western art and custom cowboy gear, opening Sept. 18-20.
This beloved event honors the craftsmanship, artistry and heritage of the West, bringing together acclaimed artists, master gear makers and collectors from across the country.
Opening Weekend will feature an exciting lineup of events including exclusive parties, live demonstrations and a spirited live auction. Guests will also enjoy the opportunity to meet the talented creators behind the work. This year, the Museum celebrates watercolorist Tim Oliver as the 2025 Trappings of Texas premier artist.
The exhibit will remain on display through Nov. 1, offering visitors a chance to view and purchase exceptional works of Western art and craftsmanship.
Opening weekend schedule:
Thursday, Sept.18 – Preview Party (5 to 8 p.m.)
Register as a buyer, mingle with artists and gear makers, and enjoy light refreshments and a cash bar.
Tickets: $50/person
Friday, Sept. 19 – Artist Demonstrations (11 a.m. to 3 p.m.)
Meet Trappings artists and learn firsthand about their creative process on the museum patio.
Friday, Sept. 19 – Opening Reception and Sale (5 to 8 p.m.)
The “Best Party in West Texas” features complimentary beer and wine, delicious appetizers, live music, and the chance to purchase extraordinary works.
Tickets: $75/person
Saturday, Sept. 20 – Live Auction (10 a.m.)
Held in the Cultural Events Center and led by Gary Dunshee with auctioneers Logan West and Keith Franklin. Guests can bid on unique gear and art while enjoying breakfast, coffee or cocktails.
Saturday, Sept. 20 – Artist Demonstrations (11 a.m. to 3 p.m.)

Saturday, Sept. 20 – Ranch Roundup Party (5 to 8 p.m.)
Celebrate the finale of Trappings 2025 with an evening of appetizers, dinner, drinks, and camaraderie.
Tickets: $150/person
Visitors can also enter to win tickets and a three-night stay at the historic Holland Hotel.
