Sul Ross and Odessa College have partnered to bring expanded degree opportunities to the heart of the Permian basin. Through the Sul Ross @ Odessa College Program, students in Odessa can now pursue a bachelor’s or master’s degree from Sul Ross State University – without having to leave their community.

This collaboration mirrors an outstanding and successful partnership between Sul Ross and Midland College. It is designed especially for non-traditional and place-bound students, offering flexible and affordable pathways to complete a four-year degree in fields such as Business, Criminal Justice, Psychology, English, Mathematics, and more. Select master’s programs are also available.

Students in the Sul Ross @ OC Program attend courses on the Odessa College campus through interactive-video or virtual and web-based classes. Participants can transfer up to 90 credit hours from Odessa College to Sul Ross, depending on their degree plan. This is far more than the standard 60 credit hour transfer cap at most institutions. This not only maximizes the value of the student’s coursework, but also significantly lowers the cost of completing a degree.

Odessa is a thriving city in West Texas known for its deep roots in the energy sector, diverse arts and cultural scene, and strong community spirit. Odessa College has long been a regional leader in workforce development and academic innovation, making it an ideal partner in this unique educational initiative.

This partnership is ideal for students who want to stay close to home while earning their degree, and for those with strong ties to the Odessa area who want the flexibility and affordability of starting at Odessa College and finishing with Sul Ross.

FAQs

Am I eligible for Sul Ross @ OC?

Odessa College students who have met the minimum criteria of a 2.0 GPA and 12 SCH’s are eligible

How does SR@OC work?

Students in the SR@OC Distance Education program attend SRSU classes either virtually, or through a traditional asynchronous web-based course. Select lower-level courses can be attended at OC however the course is offered. Each semester a student completes at OC, they will request their transcript be sent electronically HERE to the SRSU Transfer Specialist and completed courses will be applied to their SRSU Degree plan.

Can I be enrolled at OC and SRSU at the same time?

Yes! SR@OC students will often be co-enrolled at both institutions in the same semester in order to maximize the transfer credits that can be used towards a degree.

What about financial aid?

  • While not required, it is strongly recommended that students complete the FAFSA Application each year. SRSU will serve as the parent institution and will disperse any eligible financial aid to the student. If applicable, students may use their Pell Grant dispersal to cover OC courses. However, students are ultimately responsible for ensuring payment for any registered courses before the first day of OC classes.
  • Transferring OC students are also eligible for a $2000 scholarship, for more information on this please reach out to FA@Sulross.edu.
