The Sul Ross State University International Small Business Development Center (SBDC) proudly announces that Andrés Echavarria, owner of Takitos Con Sabor, has been named the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) San Antonio District Young Entrepreneur of the Year.
This prestigious recognition highlights outstanding entrepreneurial success across a highly competitive 55-county region. Notably, Echavarria is the first recipient from Eagle Pass to earn this distinguished honor, marking a significant milestone for the local business community.
The SRSU International SBDC played an instrumental role in this achievement, having submitted Echavarria’s nomination in December 2025. His dedication, innovation and commitment to growing his business stood out among a strong pool of candidates from across the region.
Echavarria will be formally recognized alongside other award recipients during a ceremony on May 7 in San Antonio.
“The SRSU International SBDC is very proud of Andrés and this well-deserved recognition,” said SBDC Director Cynthia Gomez. “It’s an honor to support clients like Andrés who turn their vision into reality and create lasting impact. This achievement is not only a win for his business, but for our entire region.”
Dr. Sumantra Sengupta, Dean of the Rio Grande College of Business, also praised the accomplishment. “We are excited about Andrés winning the Entrepreneur of the Year award and look forward to his continued success,” he said.
The Sul Ross State University International SBDC remains committed to supporting small businesses and entrepreneurs across the Middle Rio Grande region, helping drive economic growth and opportunity.
