ALPINE- Kate Rubio graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.S. in Criminal Justice from Sul Ross State University on December 12, 2020. Four days later she graduated from the Sul Ross Police Academy. Now, Officer Kate Rubio works on the Alpine campus with the U.P.D.
Officer Rubio’s passion for police work began in her hometown of Pecos, Texas. When Rubio was a child, she joined the I.C.E. explorers, a law enforcement program for children provided by the Bureau of Immigration & Customs Enforcement.
“This program made me realize I have a passion for law enforcement and that I wanted to be a police officer one day. I knew from the beginning this career was my calling,” said Rubio. “Each day I go to work I’m full of excitement and strength to do my job. I hope to make a positive difference on campus.”
Beautiful scenery and wide-open spaces drew Rubio to Alpine. “I love the outdoors,” she said. “I grew up in an oil field town with nothing to see but oil rigs and dirt. The change of scenery was something I needed.”
Rubio loves the variety in her day-to-day work, interacting with people, and being a protector of the campus community. “My goal at the end of the day, is for everyone to make it home safely to their families, including me.”
