Sul Ross State University, Alpine Community Projects and the Alpine Lion’s Club announced a free STEAM camp this summer on the Alpine campus.
STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics. It’s an interdisciplinary approach to learning that encourages curiosity, creativity and problem-solving by integrating these five subjects. Unlike traditional education models, STEAM emphasizes hands-on experiences, critical thinking and collaboration to prepare students for real-world challenges in both technical and creative fields.
A variety of one-hour classes for students to explore geology, biology, theatre, music, movement and careers with university faculty and community leaders will be featured.
The camp is open to students going into 5th through 8th grades in Alpine, Marfa, Marathon and Fort Davis, and will be held Monday and Tuesday, July 7-8, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Morgan University Center.
Morning snacks and lunch will be provided. Space is limited to 30 total students. Registration forms are available at campuses in all four towns and must be returned by May 30.
