The Omicron Phi Chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, the National Political Science Honor Society at Sul Ross State University, inducted two new members in September.
Alonzo Martinez, Abilene, and Jonathan Akers, Wimberley, are both students in the Master of Public Administration program.
Dr. Jessica Velasco, advisor and Associate Professor of Political Science and Public Administration, presided over the ceremony alongside Dr. Yen-Hsin Chen, Assistant Professor of Political Science and Public Administration.
Chapter President Taylor Moore and member Michelle Lancaster also participated, assisting with the initiation and leading the new inductees through the Oath of Office.
The Omicron Phi Chapter continues to promote academic excellence and engagement in political science and public service. Once inducted, students enjoy a lifetime of membership benefits. The chapter has received the Best Small Chapter Award from the national office for the last four years. Dr. Velasco also received an award for Advisor of the Year for 2024-2025. There are 850 chapters across the country.
