
The Sul Ross State University Music Program, in collaboration with Guitar in the Big Bend, is proud to present an evening of classical music featuring pianist Jae-Eun Baek and guitarist Stephen Krishnan.
The concert on Wednesday, Oct. 15, at 7:30 p.m. will be held in the Studio Theater of the Francois Fine Arts Building on the campus in Alpine. Admission is free and open to the public.
In addition to the evening concert, the duo will host a public masterclass at 3 p.m. the same day, also in the Studio Theater. This interactive session offers music students and enthusiasts a rare opportunity to engage with two highly accomplished artists.
Baek and Krishnan, performing together as the Krishnan-Baek Duo, present an innovative blend of original arrangements and classical works for piano and guitar. Their performances highlight the unique qualities of each instrument, merging them into a sound that is both timeless and contemporary.
Krishnan is an Austin-based guitarist and educator known for championing contemporary classical music. He has been featured by the Austin Chamber Music Center, Austin Classical Guitar, Conspirare, and The Contemporary Austin. His work includes performing on “The Singing Guitar” with the Austin Guitar Quartet, which received a Grammy nomination in 2021. He currently serves as Guitar Director at Orpheus Academy of Music, leads the Austin Classical Guitar Youth Sinfonia, and is adjunct faculty at Huston-Tillotson University.
Baek, originally from Seoul, is a pianist and educator who has performed extensively in chamber and solo settings. She earned her Bachelor of Music at Yonsei University, a master’s degree at Indiana University, and pursued her Doctoral degree at the University of Texas at Austin. She currently serves as Pre-College Piano Director at Orpheus Academy of Music and teaches at Austin Community College. A passionate educator, she specializes in Kodaly certification and group theory instruction for young musicians.
