The Omicron Phi Chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, the national Political Science honor society, held its first fall induction ceremony in September, welcoming a new cohort of scholars into its esteemed ranks.
The event, which took place virtually, was attended by faculty, students, and friends of the society.
The evening began with a welcome from Dr. Jessica Velasco, the chapter’s faculty advisor, followed by remarks from Dr. Everett Vieira, a member of the Pi Sigma Alpha Executive Committee.
Dr. Vieira shared the rich history and numerous benefits of Pi Sigma Alpha, encouraging the new members to actively engage with the society’s mission of promoting scholarship and public service within the field of political science.
Dr. Yen-Hsin Chen and Dr. Velasco then conducted the initiation ritual, when inductees took an oath affirming their commitment to high scholarship, integrity and the ideals of citizenship. The inductees were then called one by one to officially accept their membership.
