
Sul Ross State University leaders played a key role in the 2025 Governor’s Small Business Summit in Eagle Pass, an event that brought together entrepreneurs, community leaders and business experts to explore strategies for growth and long-term success.
The summit featured four interactive sessions designed to address the key challenges facing local entrepreneurs:
- Grow or Go: Knowing When to Scale or Sell Your Business
- Funding Your Future: Financing Strategies for Small Businesses
- Marketing Insights to Drive Real Results
- Talking Business: Small Business 101
The event opened with “Grow or Go: Knowing When to Scale or Sell Your Business,” moderated by Cynthia Gomez, Interim Director of the Sul Ross State University Small Business Development Center (SBDC). Panelists included:
- Sumantra Sengupta, Founding Dean of the Sul Ross Rio Grande College of Business
- Catrina Purcell Longoria, Partner at Longoria & Kelly PLLC
- Janie Martinez Gonzalez, Founder & CEO of Webhead Tech
The panelists shared valuable insights on scaling strategies, timing business transitions, and preparing for long-term sustainability. Their expertise provided attendees with practical tools for navigating the challenges of entrepreneurship in today’s fast-changing economy.
The Governor’s Small Business Summit series is designed to connect entrepreneurs with resources, networking opportunities and expert guidance to help businesses grow and thrive across Texas.
