Sul Ross State University has been approved to award four scholarships through the Texas Leadership Scholars Program (TLSP) for the 2026-27 academic year, according to an announcement from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB).
TLSP provides selected students with a full scholarship to attend a participating Texas university, along with leadership development opportunities, mentoring and access to a strong peer network. The program is designed to support high-achieving students who demonstrate financial need, leadership in their high school communities and strong academic performance.
“At Sul Ross, we are committed to making higher education accessible for talented students from across Texas,” said President Carlos Hernandez. “Programs like the Texas Leadership Scholars Program help ensure that exceptional students have the support they need to pursue their education and grow as leaders.”
Since its launch, TLSP has awarded scholarships to more than 1,100 students across 26 institutions in four successful cohorts. These scholars have demonstrated strong academic persistence and leadership in their communities. Current recipients maintain an average persistence rate of 92 percent, reflecting the program’s emphasis on student success.
Students selected as Texas Leadership Scholars receive comprehensive support designed to help them realize their full potential during college and beyond.
