Sul Ross State University (SRSU) and Universidad Autónoma de Chihuahua (UACH) have strengthened their international partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding, marking a significant step forward in cross-border academic collaboration.
The agreement reflects a shared commitment to advancing research, enhancing educational opportunities and fostering meaningful student and faculty engagement between the two institutions.
Through this partnership, SRSU and UACH will expand academic exchange programs, promote collaborative research initiatives and create hands-on learning opportunities that prepare students to address global challenges.
“This partnership is more than a signed document, it represents a deep commitment to collaborative science, education and stewardship of our shared Chihuahuan Desert,” said Provost and Executive Vice President Bernie Cantens. “By working together, we can better serve our students, our communities and the region we both call home.”
Dr. Carlos Gonzalez‑Gonzalez, an associate professor in the College of Agriculture, Life and Physical Sciences, initiated the partnership and will develop program for natural resource management.
The collaboration builds on the natural connection between West Texas and northern Mexico, where shared geography and cultural ties create unique opportunities for joint research and learning. Faculty and students from both institutions will have opportunities to engage in projects that address environmental, economic and social issues affecting the border region.
The agreement took effect immediately and is expected to lead to new programs and initiatives in the coming months.
