Dr. Carlos Hernandez, the president of Sul Ross State University, has been appointed to serve a one-year unexpired term on the Board of Directors for the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU).
AASCU is a Washington, D.C.–based higher education association representing nearly 400 public colleges, universities and systems across the U.S. Its mission focuses on promoting student success through state colleges and universities that serve as engines of social mobility and regional progress.
Dr. Hernandez’ appointment to the Board of Directors places him among a select group of national leaders who guide AASCU’s strategic direction and advocate for policies that strengthen higher education’s impact on communities.
“It’s an honor to represent Sul Ross State University and our region on the AASCU Board,” said Hernandez. “This appointment reflects not only the university’s commitment to student success and community engagement, but also our role as part of a larger network of public institutions advancing opportunity across the nation.”
Hernandezs term on the AASCU Board of Directors will continue through December 2026, completing an unexpired term and contributing to national discussions on the future of public higher education.
