Dr. Andria Rusk, the Executive Director of Public Health at Sul Ross State University, has been invited to lead a training workshop at the 2025 Public Health Analytics and Research Conference (PHAR 25), hosted by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS). The event will take place Oct. 29 in Austin.
PHAR 25 is an annual conference designed for DSHS staff across Texas, providing opportunities to learn about analytic and research work conducted within the agency, network with colleagues from diverse programs, and strengthen analytical skills through hands-on training sessions.
Dr. Rusk will lead a workshop on qualitative research, guiding participants through the fundamentals of qualitative methodologies, data collection and analytics. Her session will equip DSHS staff with practical tools to incorporate qualitative approaches into their public health work, enriching data interpretation and program evaluation.
“Qualitative research is a valuable tool in the belt of public health professionals that provides a deep contextual understanding of our communities’ health and experience, and aids in the development of interventions and improvements that meet community needs,” said Rusk.
At Sul Ross State University, Rusk emphasizes applied analytics and community-based research, preparing students and professionals to meet the evolving needs of rural and underserved communities.
