The Alpine Lions Club recently completed judging their 2018 Peace Contest and will be sending the winning art entry by Alpine Middle School student Jordan Wilks into regional competition.
Promoting the theme of “Kindness Matters”, all of the Contest’s winning entries were displayed in the Holland Hotel this past weekend as a part of Alpine Artwalk. Additional recognition will be given to first, second, and third-place winners at a Dec. 4 luncheon.
Alpine Middle School art entry winners were: Jordan Wilks (first place), Evren Martinez (second place), Diego Covarrubias (third place), Jackson Homrighaus (honorable mention), and Aiden Unger (honorable mention). AMS essay winners were: Emma Hudson (first place), Madalyn Warren (second place), Audrey Dominguez (third place), Alexa Renteria (honorable mention), Santi Alvidrez (honorable mention), Emma Zheng (honorable mention), and Parker Smith (honorable mention).
Alpine High School art entry winners were: Madison Estepp (first place), Avery Beltran (honorable mention), and Alexis Ramos (honorable mention). AHS essay winners were: Alex Mucharraz (first place), Avery Beltran (second place), Nayeli Soto (third place), Deshawn Harmon (honorable mention), Charles Remolena (honorable mention), Deanna Payne (honorable mention), Elisette Hinojosa Garcia (honorable mention), and Luis Gallego (honorable mention).
Alpine Middle School and High School students submitted their work with guidance from Alpine ISD teachers Vickie Donaghy, Rachel Maxwell, Clinnell McComb, and Tracy Perdue.
Sul Ross State University Chair of the Department of Languages and Literature, Dr. Laura Payne, coordinated judging for the essays, and Sul Ross Professor of Art Carol Fairlie, coordinated judging for the students’ artwork.
Dr. Jeanne Qvarnstrom, Sul Ross assistant vice president for institutional effectiveness and the Contest coordinator, observed that kindness does matter in Alpine ISD as exemplified by the students’ thoughtful entries in the competition.
