Jeff Wheatcraft, the 2019 Texas Teacher of the Year, will be the featured speaker at the Annual John B. Poindexter Lecture, scheduled for Tuesday, October 8.
The event will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Espino Conference Center of the Morgan University Center.
Wheatcraft is an eighth-grade science teacher at Alamo Heights Junior High in San Antonio.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Art Education from Arizona State University and began teaching art in 2006 before receiving a second teaching certification in science.
Wheatcraft began teaching at Alamo Heights in 2012 and created the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) program at the school.
He was named 2019 Texas Teacher of the Year and the Texas Secondary Teacher of the Year by the Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA).
The John B. Poindexter Lecture Series is sponsored by the College of Education and Professional Studies. The Lecture highlights outstanding individuals who have been successful in their respective professions and allows them to share their stories with students, faculty and staff at Sul Ross State University and the community at large.
There is no admission charge and the October 8 lecture is open to the public.
Wheatcraft will also be speaking at area public schools on October 8.
