The Sul Ross State University Strategic Plan Leadership Committee (SPLC) invites faculty and staff from the Alpine and Middle Rio Grande campuses to a one-day workshop on September 13.
The workshop runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and will be held in the Morgan University Center, Room 210.
Dr. Jim McDonald, President of Value Point Management Firm, will lead off the event with a discussion on leadership styles, healthy communication and conflict resolution.
After lunch, Dr. Jim Case, Professor of Political Science and Public Administration, will introduce a hypothetical scenario leading to an open discussion of how the situation could be approached.
Dr. Case will also contextualize management approaches within the University system and will present best practices for consideration.
Highlights of the workshop include the following:
- Discovery of personal social style
- Learning useful leadership concepts
- Practicing effective communication strategies
“The SPLC was formed of faculty and staff from both Alpine and the Middle Rio Grande campuses,” said Dr. Sally Roche, Professor of English at Sul Ross Middle Rio Grande’s Del Rio campus.
“The committee conducted a needs survey to inform the development of a leadership program. In response, this workshop was created and will help participants engage in building trust through open communication and decision making,” she said.
Dr. Roche added that both morning and afternoon sessions are interactive but only eight seats are available.
Coffee, snacks and lunch will be provided.
