Sul Ross State University has distributed $889,996 in funding from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act to students at all four SRSU campuses.
The announcement came Thursday, July 9.
Sul Ross received $1.8 million in CARES Act funding in late May following application of funds in April.
A portion of the funding also covers institutional relief programs.
“From the first day we learned we would be receiving CARES funding to help our students impacted by COVID-19, the Sul Ross team went into action to get the funds into the hands of students as fast as we could,” said Chris Clifford, Vice President for Budget and Finance. “I want to thank the committee that worked on this also, as well as Corina Ramirez and Terrie Salas in Accounting for processing these awards quickly and efficiently so they would get to students in a timely fashion.”
Clifford also noted how SRSU was a leader in expediting funding to students.
“I was consistently impressed that Sul Ross was ahead of many larger universities around the nation when it came to getting these grants into the hands of students quickly so they could use the money to help address important needs caused by the pandemic,” he said.
“The CARES Act Student Grant Committee took the task of disseminating these funds very seriously,” said Brandy Snyder, Associate Dean of Students. “Knowing the impact this money could have on student lives in the wake of COVID-19 was pivotal to their progress.”
“I would like to thank the committee members for the time and effort that they have devoted to this responsibility. I appreciate the diligence that they had to the federal eligibility requirements and to maintaining consistent standards to the decision-making process,” she said.
