On Sept. 10th, Sul Ross State University and Southwest Texas Junior College hosted “Talk Saves Lives: An Introduction to Suicide Prevention.”

Seventy-five people attended the event held in Eagle Pass.

“We must be able to recognize the signs of suicide and be aware of the resources available in our communities,” said Dr. Tiffany Culver, Associate Professor of Psychology at Sul Ross Middle Rio Grande Campus, Uvalde.

“This was a very important presentation for our community.”

Culver said free counseling is available in Alpine, Del Rio, Eagle Pass and Uvalde and is open to the public. Culver added the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention can provide free educational presentations to all organizations (schools/universities, businesses, etc.). Teachers can also receive  professional development hours for attending presentations.
