Nonprofit organizations, public officials and funders from across West Texas gathered in the Espino Conference Center for three days for the West Texas Rural Philanthropy event.
According to its website, the event functions as a connection between rural West Texas nonprofits and foundations and government agencies with similar interests.
The event is designed, organized, funded and planned by community leaders from West Texas. It provides rural nonprofits with access to funding sources, opportunities for collaboration and capacity-building services to more effectively meet the needs of rural West Texas communities.
“Our goal is to bring nonprofit education to people in rural communities,” said event organizer Laurie Johnson.
Sixteen educational sessions and a keynote session highlight this year’s gathering.
Johnson said 18 foundations are being represented at the event.
Participants will have the opportunity to present a two-minute “pitch” to foundations who will determine whether or not to fund a particular nonprofit organization.
“This is all about philanthropy,” said Johnson. “It is about providing nonprofits the opportunity to raise money to accomplish their mission.”
West Texas Rural Philanthropy Days is held every two years.
