On April 20, Sul Ross State University launched a survey of all faculty and students to learn how COVID-19 was affecting university life and operations. A total of 577 students and 73 faculty participated in the survey.
One key finding from the survey indicated that faculty were concerned about students who no longer participated in classes after the online transition. In response to that concern, the university has been reaching out to students and encouraging them to apply for the CARES ACT funding that is posted at https://srinfo.sulross.edu/cares-act/. Administration also has submitted and been awarded grants to provide emergency aid for students.
The complete analysis of the Sul Ross Online Instructional Survey is posted at https://srinfo.sulross.edu/ie/.
“The survey identifies areas for the university to address and improve,” said Dr. Jeanne Qvarnstrom, Assistant Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness. “It also shows that a majority of faculty and students appreciated the way the university handled this completely unexpected situation with COVID-19.”
Qvarnstrom said that among the responses to open-ended questions, one comment summed it up for many, “I think SRSU did a great job overall with the transition.”
