Sul Ross State University will welcome the holiday season with a tree lighting ceremony and winter carnival on Tuesday, Nov. 29. The public is invited to attend.
Beginning at 5:30 p.m., all are welcome to take photographs in front of the 25-foot Christmas tree at Lawrence Hall, which is located at Entrance 2 on Highway 67/90.
Dr. Carlos Hernandez, interim president, will flip the switch and turn the lights on with help from friends at 6 p.m.
All are invited to sing Christmas carols, led by students and athletes, as they walk from Lawrence Hall to the Morgan University Center for refreshments and entertainment provided by the SRSU Concert Band, directed by Dr. Andrew Alegria. Mariachi Santa Cruz and the Sul Ross Pep Band, directed by Chuck Wilson, will also perform.
First Lady Lupita Hernandez will read ’Twas the Night Before Christmas for the children in attendance, after which Santa Claus himself is scheduled for an appearance at approximately 7 p.m. He’ll be available for visiting and photos for about an hour.
Throughout the evening, student organizations will host a winter carnival on the second floor of the University Center with booths for goods and crafts. Hot chocolate and cookies will be served.
