We may not be able to predict the weather out here in West Texas, but we can predict an awesome tailgate. And there’s no better way to get into the football spirit Homecoming Saturday than to move from the parade to a “Sully Pride” tailgate. Deck out and show out in your red and grey—see you there!
Each home gameday, Lobo fans, student clubs, and local businesses set up tents and line Lobo Lane, right next Jackson Field. And you can, too, or simply stroll along and enjoy the sights and smells barbecues. Be sure to sample the sweet and savory offerings and wash it all down with ice-cold (and hot!) beverages.
Much of the tailgate is free. University organizations and clubs also are there offering up some goodies for purchase, as well, with proceeds going towards supporting their group activities and causes.

Sul Ross’ men’s basketball coach, Clif Carroll, is proud to say that he revived Sully’s football tailgate at our stadium. When he came to Sul Ross five years ago, he noticed a certain absence of the pre-game tailgate tradition. He loves a robust university gameday tailgate, so, as he points out, he said to himself, “I’m going to tailgate.”
And he did just that, cooking-up his recipe for Terry County Bean Chile. With its tangy, delicious hint of spiciness and sweetness, a Lobo tradition now continues on home gamedays.
Across from Coach this weekend, look for all the many exes and alums who no-doubt will be hanging out at the Lobo’s West Texas Alumni Chapter and sample what they will be serving up.
Because it’s Homecoming 2019.

Whether we’re bundling up or soaking up some sun, either way, we’ll find an array of incredible foods and lots of Lobo spirit. And we’ll get riled-up to cheer on our Sul Ross Lobos as they take on Texas Lutheran University at 6:00 p.m.
Want to set-up a spot to tailgate? All you have to do is pull-up on Saturday between the hours of 3:00 and 6:00 p.m. Sergeant Omar Madrid will be there waiting for you at the gate.
