The First Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service was held Monday, January 18. Sul Ross students and community volunteers gathered at the Jackson Football Field parking lot at 9am to divide into teams. Alpine police and city workers led participants across the city to gather litter and larger, illegally discarded items for disposal. Volunteers filled more than three trash trailers with garbage for transport to the Alpine city landfill. Discarded mattresses, couches, used tires, and brush were also cleared from city streets during the Day of Service event.
