The Sul Ross Theatre Program is hosting a theatre camp July 15-19 for children ages 7-12.
“Fairies, Knights, and Maidens” is a weeklong day camp during which campers will play theater games, create masks, costumes, props, and rehearse an original play about the heroic and magical characters of medieval times, but with a modern twist. The week will culminate in a performance of the original play that is free and open to the public.
“Theatre fosters creativity, empathy and play,” said Camp Director and SRSU Associate Professor of Communication and Theatre Marjie Scott. “Campers get to explore improvisation, voice and movement and work on art and design projects led by my wonderful colleague, Ramon Deanda. It’s a fun week where we all work together to create something new and exciting.”
Deanda, a working artist from Presidio, is an Assistant Professor of Art at Sul Ross with extensive experience teaching K-12 in Texas and New Mexico.
Camp will be held in the Fine Arts Building Studio Theatre on the Alpine campus. The registration fee is $125 per child, which includes a supply and snack fee and two tickets to see Theatre of the Big Bend’s production of “Sherwood: The Adventures of Robin Hood” by Ken Ludwig, running at the Kokernot Outdoor Theatre Thursday-Sunday through July 28.
Parents and guardians may register their children for camp at www.bit.ly/sulross-theatre or pay with cash or check in the Fine Arts Building, Room 106, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
