Alpine, TX – After a long search, Sul Ross finally has their new Provost. Dr. Bernardo Joaquin Canteñs has officially accepted the position as of Monday, November 16th. There were several candidates that were vetted during the year but the decision has been made.
Dr. Canteñs visited the campuses of Alpine, Del Rio, Uvalde, and Eagle Pass over the course of the previous week. During his tour, he met with faculty, staff, students, community members to answer their questions and discuss the direction he envisions for the university. He was met very positively and received great feedback.
“I am super excited about Dr Canteñs arrival and know that he will be a major force in achieving my goal of making Sul Ross one of the 100 best small colleges and universities in the country,” said President Pete Gallego.
Dr. Canteñs has a long and extensive career with higher education. He achieved his B.A. at Florida International University followed by his Ph.D. at the University of Miami in Philosophy.
