The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) will hold its annual meeting in Houston, December 7-10.
This year, five Sul Ross State University faculty and staff members from the Alpine and Del Rio campuses will be attending the conference.
Dr. Jennifer Miller-Ray, Dr. Sally Roche, Dr. Jeanne Qvarnstrom, Libby Newman, and April Aultman Becker will be learning about the latest requirements for maintaining university accreditation and trends in higher education.
On December 10, Becker will present a session focusing on SRSU’s Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP).
In its third year of implementation, the Sul Ross QEP has been selected by SACSCOC to be showcased in the Resource Room at the December conference.
“This is a huge honor for our university’s QEP to be shown at this meeting,” said Becker who is Dean of Library and Information Technologies. “We’ve had such tremendous input from faculty, staff and students on our QEP for the last few years.”
Becker also serves as the QEP Coordinator for the Sul Ross Alpine Campus while Dan Foley oversees the QEP at Middle Rio Grande Campuses in Del Rio, Uvalde and Eagle Pass.
Becker added that the QEP serving as a model for other institutions indicates the university is on the right track in improving student communication.
“Our faculty have also worked very hard in creating and teaching their mapped classes to help our students with written, oral and nonverbal communication skills.”
“Our QEP has brought a high level of distinction for all Sul Ross faculty, students, administrators and staff at all four campuses,” said Qvarnstrom, Assistant Vice President of Institutional Effectiveness.
“This is the product of a broad-based institutional process and something we can all be proud of and celebrate” she said.
