The Sul Ross Theatre Program is hosting its annual Microcinema Festival April 8, 9, & 10 at the Kokernot Outdoor Theatre Drive-in. This year, the festival celebrates films from Spain and Latin America, including The Second Mother (Brazil), Wild Tales (Argentina), and Pan’s Labyrinth (Spain/Mexico). Sul Ross President Pete Gallego is the guest of honor on Saturday, April 10.
In past years, Microcinema has featured films from the MENA (Middle East/North African) region, films directed and shot by women, films exploring the black American experience, and films made by Native American artists.
“Our goal is to celebrate diversity in film,” says Chair of Fine Arts and Communication Marjie Scott. “The Microcinema is an opportunity to provide cultural experiences for the Sul Ross and wider Big Bend communities. These films are not usually available at the local Cineplex.”
The Second Mother directed by Anna Muylaert screens Thursday, April 8 at 8:00 pm; Wild Tales directed by Damián Szifron screens on Friday, April 9 at 8:00 pm; Pan’s Labyrinth directed by Guillermo del Toro screens Saturday, April 10 at 8:00 pm. Admission is $10 per car. Bring your own concessions. All films contain adult themes and graphic imagery. Parental guidance strongly advised.
