College Level Examination Program (CLEP)
The College Level Examination Program is a testing program which enables students to receive course credit by taking an exam. Students can earn up to 30 semester hours of credit by exam.
Prior to enrollment, new students who have not attempted college credit before may submit acceptable scores from a general or subject exam and will receive credit only in those subjects in which they have not earned academic credit. Enrolled students are eligible to take subject examinations only if they have not attempted the course.
Students may not attempt credit by examination for a course in which they have received failing grades or for a basic course in those areas in which they have acceptable college credit for more advanced courses. New students may want to arrange to take the test(s) during orientation or prior to regular registration to facilitate their advising and enrollment. Test results are received immediately since the test is on computer except for the Analysis & Interpretation of Literature (ENG 2301), which requires an acceptable essay graded by the SRSU English department.
If a student has withdrawn from a course – has a “W” – and wishes to take a CLEP test for that subject, he or she must present a letter to the Testing Center from their advisor on SRSU letterhead or an email from the advisor authorizing the student to test.
